Eligibility & Benefits

Why Be A Member?

Home Rule Cities in Jefferson County, Kentucky, are eligible for membership in the Jefferson County League of Cities. The amount of dues paid is determined by a city’s population as set by the JCLC Board of Directors in accordance with state law. Member cities are represented either by their Mayor or a Councilperson/Commissioner or other city official.

A key benefit of JCLC Membership is training provided to assist elected officials in the proper administration of their cities in accordance with Kentucky law. Peer-to-peer relationships developed by JCLC Members result in sharing of ideas and experiences that lead to more responsive government. Some JCLC member cities work together and save substantial tax dollars by using interlocal purchasing agreements.

Member cities also benefit from collaborative efforts to advance and protect their Home Rule City status at the state and local level through advocacy efforts and legal action.

JCLC Monthly Meetings offer informational programs to enhance JCLC Members’ understanding of a variety of community interests and topics relevant to governing cities. Topics have included property valuation, fire districts, public schools among others. All meetings are open to the public.
